Nate was raised in Reston, Virginia. Both physically and musically talented, he wrestled and played in the marching band while attending South Lakes High School. After graduating, he studied at Virginia Tech and Northern Virginia Community College before enlisting in the U.S. Army in 1995.

After completing basic training at Fort Knox, Kentucky, Nate was stationed in Germany for three years and served nearly six months as a peacekeeper in Macedonia. He later worked as a recruiter in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, for two years before deploying to Iraq as a squad leader with the 1st Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division, based at Fort Hood, Texas. On December 28, 2004, while leading a convoy in Baghdad, his vehicle was struck by a speeding civilian car, resulting in his death.

Nate was a kind and quiet man who loved his family deeply—especially his wife, Becky, and daughter, Brooke. He enjoyed golfing with his wife and playing video games in his spare time. His legacy lives on through his family, friends, and comrades.
