Danny grew up in Littleton, Colorado, and graduated from Heritage High School in 1999, where he played sports and earned a black belt in taekwondo. Three months later, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy.
He completed basic training at Naval Station Great Lakes, followed by Gunner’s Mate “A” School in Pensacola, Florida. In 2001, he graduated from the demanding Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL (BUD/S) training and earned his SEAL Trident. He then completed Airborne School and SEAL Delivery Vehicle (SDV) training. Assigned to SEAL Delivery Vehicle Team TWO in Virginia Beach, Virginia, he served as a secondary SDV pilot and department head. In April 2005, he deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
On June 28, 2005, during Operation Red Wings, Danny was part of a four-man SEAL reconnaissance team tasked with locating a senior Taliban leader in the mountains near Asadabad. The team was ambushed by a far larger enemy force. Though wounded, he fought bravely to protect his teammates until he was mortally wounded. For his heroism, he was posthumously awarded the Navy Cross, Silver Star, and Purple Heart.
Danny’s legacy endures through his family, friends, and comrades. A statue in Littleton honors his courage, sacrifice, and service.
