Brent graduated from Hempfield High School in Landisville, Pennsylvania, in 1983. Four years later, he joined the Pennsylvania National Guard. He earned a bachelor’s degree in regional planning from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1995. A steadfast man of faith, Brent served as a leader in his local church. His son was his pride and joy. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed backpacking, camping, and fishing. His musical tastes ranged from heavy metal to big bands and symphonies. He loved watching Penn State, Pirates, and Steelers games, and cherished family trips to the beach.
In June 2005, he deployed to Iraq with the U.S. Army National Guard’s 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 28th Infantry Division, based in Washington, Pennsylvania. At the time, he had served nearly 18 years in the National Guard and was looking forward to retiring in 2008. On December 1, 2005, he was killed in Ramadi when his vehicle was struck by a rocket-propelled grenade.
Brent’s legacy endures through his wife, Marilyn; his son, Daniel; and his extended family, friends, and fellow soldiers.
