Gold Star Family Picnic

The Family Picnic is the cornerstone Legacy Event that connects Gold Star families each year. Hundreds of Gold Star families, Legacies Alive staff, and supporters come together for a weekend of comradery, encouragement, and healing – all made possible by an army of volunteers, donors, and sponsors. The event, which takes place at a private farm outside of Pittsburgh, features a weekend of activities, food, entertainment, fireworks, and an opportunity to honor and remember the legacies of our fallen heroes.

2022 Gold Star Family Picnic Highlights

The 2nd Annual Gold Star Family Picnic hosted more than 350 Gold Star Family members and guests over the Fourth of July weekend. Highlights included food and fellowship, softball games, a corn hole tournament, face painting, Co-Co the Clown, the South Beaver Township Fire Department, Gold Star Riders, live music by the Steve Smith band, and a finale of fireworks. Many thanks to all of our volunteers, donors and sponsors who made this day honorable and memorable for our Gold Star families and keeping the legacies of our fallen heroes forever alive.

Following is what some of our Gold Star family members shared about what Legacies Alive and this event means to them:

“Legacies Alive provides an amazing opportunity for Gold Star families to come together. It provides comradery. And it provides healing in that process of getting to be around other Gold Star families. This is a group of people that understand what it feels like to have lost a loved one and understand what we’ve gone through. So the wonderful thing is that you can converse with others in an environment where everybody understands. And that in itself is very healing. So this is an amazing opportunity for us.”

“As a surviving Gold Star family, it’s hard enough to lose our loved one but to come together with other who sadly we all share the same mission of the loss of our loved ones, our heroes, our warriors. It means so much to come together and to have them honored.”

A special thanks to Poor Bear Stories for capturing our weekend in the video above!
